The author of the Marciac chapel in the church of SS. Trinità dei Monti in Rome has been much debated by scholars for decades. After many different and conflicting hypotheses, it is now possible to identify the painter: a French artist almost unknown until now, who was also active as a miniaturist for French patrons in Rome. This paper presents this new discovery and reconstructs his artistic personality in the Roman milieu, in an effort to understand the meaning of the chapel, devoted to the Nativity, in the contest of the royal French church in the Papal city.
