Diego Lopez de Cortegana is one of the paradoxical figures of the Spanish Renaissance. A member of the Seville clergy, he was an active inquisitor and persecutor of people accused of crypto-Judaism, but also a humanist and translator of Apuleius, Erasmus, and Piccolomini (Pope Pius II). This paper will examine the latter two translations, including paratexts, and place them in the context of Cortegana's career.
