Knowledge-Making and the Material Imaginary in the Early Modern Workshop

Sat, April 1, 10:30am to 12:00pm, Palmer House Hilton, Floor: Seventh Floor, Sandburg 2

Abstract

How best might we characterize the kind of knowledge produced in an artisanal workshop in the early modern period? This paper considers possible terminology and concepts for the processes, principles, and taxonomies that emerged out of an artisan's engagement with the world of materials through skilled practice, experience, and the work of mind/body.
