Session Submission Type: Roundtable
The framework of classical Western culture was reworked in the Early Modern period, when the certainties of ancient and medieval worlds came undone, and new moral and geographical parameters arose in sexuality, conquest, literature and art. The Early Modern Hispanic World offers opportunities for renegotiation of identities based on different applications of classical models and thought. This round-table rethinks Don Quixote, El Cid, Dulcinea and El Inca Garcilaso in terms of change, and realignment of classicism in a world where new models forcibly arose.
