2-185 - Attachment theory and research across the last 30 years: How have we grown and where are we going?

Fri, March 20, 1:55 to 3:25pm, Marriott, Floor: Level 5, Grand Ballroom Salon A

Session Type: Conversation Roundtable

Integrative Statement

The year 2015 marks 30 years since SRCD published the monograph “Growing points in attachment theory and research” (Bretherton & Waters,1985) which continues to be widely read and extensively cited. The proposed conversation hour will look back on the last three decades of attachment research, and consider what further growth has been realized, and what challenges have been confronted. Panelists and Chair include pioneering theorists and researchers who contributed to the 1985 SRCD monograph (Cassidy, Main, Sroufe), as well as editors of the Handbook of Attachment (Cassidy), and the journal, Attachment & Human Development (Steele) – publications that first appeared in 1999 with Mary Ainsworth’s endorsement. Panelists will review the major contributions of attachment researchers during the past 30 years, and important questions for further research.
