3-220 - Community Implementation of Attachment-Based Interventions: New Frontiers

Integrative Statement

Multiple attachment-based programs with growing evidence of efficacy are increasingly being implemented in community settings, explicitly outside of controlled research trials and with an eye toward integrating attachment-based intervention protocol into comprehensive social service systems. Until recently, evaluations of these community-based efforts were often not as rigorous as the randomized trials that initially demonstrated program efficacy. Findings from rigorous evaluations of attachment-based interventions as they are being implemented in the community are now becoming available. This symposium will present four papers, each describing new findings from a randomized controlled trial testing the efficacy of an attachment-based program implemented in the community.

The first paper will describe findings from a multi-pronged, RCT initiative for low-income adolescent mothers that includes the Child-Parent Psychotherapy intervention as one component (N = 190).

The second paper will describe the effects of the Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-up program for toddlers (ABC-T) implemented through a randomized trial in collaboration with a state foster care system (N = 121).

The third paper will present findings from a randomized trial of home-based Early Head Start plus the Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-up (ABC) program in a sample of low-income families with infants and toddlers (N = 208).

The fourth paper will describe findings from a randomized trial of The Circle of Security-Parenting (COS-P) intervention in a low-income sample of Head Start-enrolled children and their mothers (N = 141).

All presenters will discuss implications of their findings for sustained implementation of attachment programs in community settings.
