Session Type: Paper Session
Empirical evidence has repeatedly demonstrated that the quality of the early childhood classroom learning environment and student-teacher interactions, in particular, is low. Moreover, designing effective learning environments for young learners from diverse linguistic backgrounds is a particular challenge for educators—and there is a relatively small evidence base to draw on to inform the design of professional learning in this domain. Together, the papers in this session focus on professional development strategies to enhance educators’ ability to promote the early learning and development of children from diverse linguistic backgrounds, across domestic and international contexts.
