Session Type: Paper Session
In this symposium the presenters will describe and illustrate several new, cutting edge, and often underused methods that will allow researchers to examine even more complex developmental questions than we have been able to prior to now. 1. Latent Change Score (LCS) modeling when combined with Item Response Theory (IRT) allows researchers to more properly model change when reusing the same items at all waves. 2. Network models of psychological constructs that will allow constructs to emerge from a system of interacting observed components. 3. New methods for analyzing gene X environment (GxE) interactions such as summative gene indices that emphasize the construct validity of gene effects. 4. The methodology of survival analysis that answers questions about whether and when participants first experience important life events (e.g., marriage, arrest) what predicts those occurrences.
