Integrative Statement

Biography:
Christia Spears Brown is a Professor of Developmental Psychology at the University of Kentucky. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin in 2003. Her research focuses on children’s perceptions of gender and ethnic discrimination, the development of stereotypes and group identity, and the impact of discrimination and stereotypes on academic outcomes. Her research on Latino immigrant children’s perceptions of discrimination across school contexts was funded by the Foundation for Child Development. In addition to peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, she has written two books, one for an academic audience, Discrimination in Childhood and Adolescence, and one for parents, Parenting Beyond Pink and Blue, and co-edited the Wiley Handbook of Group Processes in Children and Adolescents. She has been a Consulting Editor for Child Development and Journal of Research in Adolescence and is currently an Associate Editor of Journal of Adolescent Research.
