Integrative Statement

Biography:
Mitch Prinstein, Ph.D., ABPP is the John Van Seters Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience and the Director of Graduate Studies at UNC Chapel Hill. His research program examines associations among adolescents’ interpersonal experiences with peers and psychological symptoms, including depression, nonsuicidal self-injury, suicidal behavior, as well as a host of health risk behaviors. With ongoing funding from NIH, Prinstein has published over 130 peer-review publications and 9 books, including an undergraduate textbook in clinical psychology, a set of encyclopedias on adolescent development, two professional development volumes for graduate students, and a mass-market trade book designed to disseminate psychological science to the general public. Prinstein has received national awards for his research contributions, for his work offering professional development to graduate students nationally, and as an “outstanding graduate mentor” in the field. Prinstein also has been an active contributor to professional service, serving as the Chair of the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students, the Chair of the ad hoc APA Committee on Early Career Psychologists, the President of the Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology, the President of the Society for Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and the Editor of the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. He also has served as a board member of the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology and on the board of directors of the American Psychological Association.
