Integrative Statement

Biography:
Susan Goldin-Meadow is the Beardsley Ruml Distinguished Service Professor of Psychology and Comparative Human Development at the University of Chicago. She is the founding editor of Language Learning and Development, and has served as head of the Cognitive Development Society, the International Society of Gesture Studies, the Cognitive Science Society, the Section on Linguistics and Language Science and the Section on Psychology at AAAS, and APS. She is a Fellow of APS, APA (Divisions 7 and 3), Linguistics Society of America, Psychonomics, Cognitive Science Society, Society of Experimental Psychologists, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her research has two foci: (1) language creation in children who are not exposed to linguistic input, and (2) the gestures we produce while speaking and their impact on thinking.
