Session Type: Paper Symposium
Brain supports and constrains student learning, and learning continuously influence brain development. In the last two decades, the learning sciences have made visible progresses in bridging cognitive neuroscience research of learning and the education improvement. However, the gaps between cognitive neuroscience studies in lab and student learning in real world remain large worldwide. It is of great significance to integrate exciting scientific discoveries of the mutual effects between brain and learning into the efforts for promoting student learning and development in daily life. Therefore, more translational research are needed to directly address the questions arising from student daily learning and to explicitly target the promotion of student learning and development with the aid from newly developed brain imaging techniques. This symposium will bring scholars with various backgrounds of psychology, neuroscience and education from China, Finland and USA to share the advancements in their efforts of integrating cognitive and social learning research with the cutting-edge brain imaging techniques in lab and student learning promotion in the real world. The first presentation will propose a framework of translational research and highlight the principles with a case that how early life environment shape the learning capacity of the developing individual across various domains. The following three presentations will address how academic and non-academic (language, music, and self-regulation) skills may have effects on brain to learn and achieve successful daily functions.
