1-010 - Building a Global Network: Conducting International Research as a Graduate Student or Early Career Scholar

Thu, March 21, 9:30 to 11:00am, Baltimore Convention Center, Floor: Level 3, Room 316

Session Type: Professional Development Session

Integrative Statement

This workshop aims to foster international research and collaboration among all SRCD members, with a particular focus on the needs of students and early career scholars. The workshop will begin with a discussion of the importance of international collaborations, followed by presentations of multiple strategies for expanding your work internationally. Traditional strategies for international expansion will be presented, including best practices for establishing a new international data collection project. However, focus will also be given to small scale, achievable strategies that do not require significant financial support. Funding resources to support international work will be presented, including small and large research grants, presentation support opportunities, training workshops, and travel grants. A question and answer session will be hosted by a panelist of scholars bringing diverse international perspectives, and the workshop will conclude with the introduction of the 100 Global Sites Network, sponsored by the Student and Early Career Council to establish and develop a connected network of colleagues interested in pursuing international work. There will be multiple opportunities for audience input and the sharing of experience and insights. The primary goal of the workshop is to provide resources to empower international scholarship and to connect participants in order to build capacity for expanding research and scholarly work internationally.

This session is co-sponsored by the Student and Early Career Council (SECC).
