Integrative Statement

In this paper symposium, we will present new findings from a longitudinal study conducted with immigrant youth, titled New York City Academic and Social Engagement Study (NYCASES) and results from a meta-analysis on the relation between acculturation and educational outcomes among immigrants. The papers presented in this panel examine how various contextual factors impact immigrants psychological well-being and educational outcomes. The first is a longitudinal study that examines the role of ethnic identity in predicting trajectories of mental health symptoms among first-and-second generation immigrant youth. The second is a cross-sectional study designed to focus on the role of fair society beliefs on coping strategies among Black immigrant youth. The third is the field’s latest comprehensive meta-analysis that examines the relation between acculturation and educational outcomes among immigrants. Using sophisticated data analytical procedures, each paper significantly contributes to our understanding of diverse immigrant youth development and their psychological and educational outcomes.
