Child and Adolescent Research at the National Institute On Drug Abuse

Abstract

The mission of the National Institute on Drug Abuse is to advance science on the causes and consequences of drug use and addiction and to apply that knowledge to improve individual and public health. This involves both supporting and conducting basic and clinical research on drug use, its consequences and underlying mechanisms as well as ensuring the effective translation, implementation and dissemination of scientific research findings to improve the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders. In this poster session we will highlight several signature NIDA research projects, including the Adolescent Brain and Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study, Monitoring the Future, the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study, as well as research efforts to prevent and treat opioid misuse, funded through the National Institutes of Health Helping to End Addiction Long-Term (HEAL) Initiative. Opportunities for data sharing and use of these studies for secondary data analysis will be discussed. The poster will highlight opportunities for NIDA supported Research Training and Career Development. Program staff will be present during the Federal Agency Poster Session (or arrange an individual time to meet) to answer questions about child and adolescent research opportunities at NIDA.
