Institute of Education Sciences: Education Research Grant Programs and Funding Opportunities

Abstract

The mission of the Institute of Education Sciences is to fund research to address the achievement gap and improve education outcomes for all learners. Through two Research Centers, the National Center for Education Research (NCER) and the National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER), the Institute funds grants for education and special education research that span the early years to adulthood; predoctoral, postdoctoral, and early career training; statistics and methodology to support education research; evaluations of state and local education programs and policies; researcher-practitioner partnerships; research networks; research and development centers; and other innovative competitions. This poster session will describe the full range of education and special education research programs, discuss current research initiatives and funding opportunities, and provide information about the grant competition timeline. NCER and NCSER staff will describe funding opportunities and provide an overview of NCER and NCSER research programs.
The National Center for Education Research (NCER) supports research to address access to high quality education and close the achievement gap by improving teaching and learning and education policy and practice. NCER supports rigorous and relevant education research to address significant education problems across preschool, K-12, and postsecondary and adult education settings. Funding opportunities are announced on an annual basis and include a combination of recurring grant competitions and programs and new research programs and initiatives to address specific education issues and innovation in education research and practice.
The National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER) supports rigorous research on infants, toddlers, children, and youth with or at risk for disabilities to identify practices, programs, or policies associated with positive student outcomes; develop and evaluate interventions; and develop and validate assessments. Special initiatives focus programs of research and leadership activities on areas of special education in need of more research and training grants support fellowship programs, individual early career researchers, and methodology for any special education researcher.
The poster session will provide an overview of education (NCER) and special education (NCSER) research funding opportunities that focus on learning, development, instruction, and intervention for young children, students, and adults.
