Opportunities and Limitations of Publicly Available Big Data for Biomarker Discovery in the Developing Brain

Thu, April 8, 10:00 to 11:30am EDT (10:00 to 11:30am EDT), Virtual

Abstract

Large-scale datasets are a prerequisite for the discovery and validation of reproducible brain-based biomarkers of development, behavior, cognition, and mental health. As such, the growing public availability of large-scale pediatric neuroimaging datasets, spanning a range of age-ranges, clinical populations, sampling strategies, and data types, is increasing the feasibility of implementing meaningful biomarker discovery. I will scope out opportunities for the usage of public datasets for biomarker discovery, while highlighting the limitations and misconceptions that will hinder progress if not properly considered.
