Best practices and challenges to developmental longitudinal studies during a global pandemic

Abstract

Developmental longitudinal modeling poses its own specific set of challenges to study design, analysis, and interpretation. Hundreds of labs around the world were either in the middle of or just beginning developmental longitudinal studies when the pandemic hit. This roundtable will discuss major questions we are all facing with our current study designs, analyses, and interpretations of data, as well as where we go from here for planning out future study design, analyses, or interpretation of data. There will be a specific focus on how we address and better engage with our communities, understanding that this pandemic disproportionately affected populations of color, economic disadvantage, and children and youth with learning disabilities and/or mental health needs. Four panelists from a diverse range of academic backgrounds, national and international labs and career stages will provide critical perspectives on best practices and challenges to longitudinal developmental studies now and moving forward following the global pandemic.
