Depression, anxiety, and self-harm behaviors have complex etiological roots that can enscapsulate multiple risk factors. The papers in this flash talk session will address equifinality in the development of internalized distress and related forms of pathology by summarizing findings from diverse research programs. The presented investigations will consider a wide variety of predictors and potential underlying mechanisms. Factors discussed will include home environment, trauma and other forms of childhood adversity, stress exposure, parental psychopathology, and maternal smoking.
