Vulnerable Children and Families in COVID-19: Risks and Resilience

Fri, April 9, 10:00 to 11:30am EDT (10:00 to 11:30am EDT), Virtual

Session Type: Flash Talk Session

Abstract

COVID-19 underscored the vulnerability of children and families contending with high cumulative risk due to combined effects of pre-existing psychosocial conditions or a piling up of new risks related to the cascading consequences of the pandemic on families beyond the virus itself. These cumulative threats include disabilities, racism, marginalization, displacement, unemployment, poverty, and family problems. This session highlights the compounded risks of COVID-19 for children and families, as well as protective influences needed to foster resilience for vulnerable children and families in the context of complex disasters.
