The Cascading Educational Impacts of COVID-19

Thu, April 8, 11:35am to 1:05pm EDT (11:35am to 1:05pm EDT), Virtual

Session Type: Flash Talk Session

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted education in many schools around the world, creating widespread stress for children, parents, teachers, and workplaces. Many families and educators struggled to provide meaningful distance learning or safe in-person learning. The situation underscored the enormous disparities in school resources and home environments for broadband access and available supervision as well as adequate food. This situation raised extensive concerns about short- and long-term effects on child safety and wellbeing, learning, family function, teachers and education systems, and the economy that depends on children going to school. The talks in this session consider the widespread impact of COVID-19 on children, teachers, and parents in relation to education and other systems that depend on education, highlighting risks, resilience, and lessons learned from pandemic experiences.
