Educational Environments and Child Development in Low-Income Contexts

Abstract
The relevance in determining school readiness skills and school attainment of child/caregivers interactions and social support, as well as cognitive factors such as executive functioning or theory of mind, together with emotional variables and psychological well-being is well documented. However, most of the studies regarding these topics were conducted in Global North countries and far less is known about whether these variables and their relations behave the same in the impoverished contexts of Global South countries (e. g. India, Peru, and Uganda). This flash talk session will tackle this problem and discuss some possible contributions to the following questions. Which characteristics of the poor countries' educational environments need to be studied more deeply? How the effects of home caregivers and children's interactions in such difficult contexts can affect school attainment? What kind of interventions can improve home-caregivers' support and children abilities to school learning?
