Fri, March 24, 3:30 to 5:00pm, Salt Palace Convention Center, Floor: 1, Meeting Room 151 E-F

Abstract

Program staff from the National Institute of Mental Health will present on current priorities and opportunities for mental health research focused on early childhood (0-8 years). The NIMH Strategic Plan, 2020-2024, informs current priorities. Strategic priorities relevant to mental health research focused on young children will be highlighted, including priorities for addressing mental health disparities and promoting health equity. Examples of strategic priorities and current research interests focused on young children and developmental processes beginning early in life will be emphasized. This includes: research to understand developmental pathways and identify risk for mental disorders; research on development of novel interventions for early childhood that leverage findings from biological and behavioral research; studies examining the efficacy and effectiveness of preventive and treatment interventions and the underlying mechanisms; and mental health services research to improve access, uptake and delivery of evidence-based preventive, treatment and services interventions for young children and their families, and improve outcomes.
