Abstract

This conversational roundtable brings together leaders in home visiting to discuss how the interface of policy, practice, and research can advance professional development (PD) innovations that lead to improved child and family outcomes as well as to home visitor well-being and professional competence. Panelists include Mark Innocenti, Ph.D., Utah State University, Hyun-Joo Jeon, Ph.D., University of Nevada, Reno, Angela Rau, M.S., professional coach and consultant and former Director of Program Innovation and Professional Development at Parents as Teachers National Center, and Bridget Walsh, Ph.D., University of Nevada, Reno. The session will be moderated by Patti Manz, Ph.D., Lehigh University. The roundtable will be structured according to five topic areas: critical PD needs for home visitors, current PD practices, current PD policies, research basis for home visitor PD, and perspectives on the interrelationship of policy, practice, and research on present and future creation of home visitor PD. The first hour will entail discussion among the panel members, expanding to discussion among attendees during the final 30 minutes. Attendees will learn from shared experiences and be encouraged to critically examine the importance of aligning policy, practice, and research in the development of cohesive and effective PD for home visitors.
