Session Type: Flash Talk Session
Progression of bilingual skills in older children includes literacy skills and further opportunity for development through language exposure. Four talks examine (1) language and literacy outcomes as they relate to bilingual and monolingual children’s shared and distinct experiences, (2) exposure to another language leading to different patterns of speech categorization, (3) the simple view of reading (decoding and listening comprehension) extended to bilingual children and adolescents, and (4) bilingual and biliterate children negotiating their two languages in real-time in order to recognize words.
