Session Type: Flash Talk Session
Recent research has been uncovering the potential of mindfulness and the importance of understanding the emotional context in supporting health and wellbeing. This Flash Talk Session brings together four presentations that focus on bringing mindfulness-based interventions or look at the power of the emotional context of the intervention provider, such as a teacher, in achieving positive outcomes for intervention participants. The first paper brings a mindfulness based intervention to Chinese migrant children, finding positive effects on a host of outcomes. The second paper looks at outcomes of teachers while the teachers themselves implement a mindfulness based program in their classroom for their students, finding positive effects. The third paper applies one mindfulness based concept, self-compassion, to programs intended to support coping when experienced parental bereavement, which increased during the Covid-19 pandemic. The fourth paper takes the idea of responsive coaching into a parent-child therapy context and shows how different interaction techniques by therapists associate with patient outcomes.
