Session Type: Flash Talk Session
Presenters in this flash talk session will explore children's and adolescents' understanding of different economic considerations. Paper 1 will examine children's use of temporal cues to inform conceptions of ownership and discuss how abandonment is a particularly salient cue to ownership for both children and adults. Paper 2 will investigate children's understanding of economic constraints when inferring others' preferences and discuss children’s developing recognition of these constraints when making social inferences. Paper 3 will test how adolescents decide which peers to trust in a gambling task and discuss results showing that adolescents primarily rely on their close friends, peers they trust, and peers they think are smart, but are not swayed by popularity when deciding whom to listen to.
