Displacement/Migration: Refugee Families and Adaptations

Fri, March 24, 3:30 to 5:00pm, Salt Palace Convention Center, Floor: 1, Grand Ballroom A

Session Type: Duo Address

Abstract

This dialogue focuses on what interdisciplinary and transnational perspectives may add to our understanding of experiences of youth growing up in contexts of displacement and involuntary migration. We will discuss the role of youth in forging their own solutions that lead to positive trajectories of learning, development, and thriving in dynamic, changing circumstances; what supports they make use of and create in navigating the variety of settings, borders, and spaces they encounter, including through institutions and relationships; how developmental scientists may contribute to practice and policy that may help displaced youth to thrive, including the roles of long-term partnerships; and the role of transdisciplinary, multi-method research in illuminating and advancing the futures of displaced youth and the societies in which they live.
