Market Performance of Rural Enterprises in Sub-Saharan Africa: Case of Malawi and Uganda

Abstract

This study evaluates the market performance of rural enterprises in sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular emphasis on Malawi and Uganda. Utilizing data from the World Bank's Living Standard Measurement Study (LSMS), the study will examine the market survival of rural enterprises and identifies the factors influencing the probability of market exit. Further, the study will analyze the performance of these enterprises in relation to productivity and profit earnings. Based on the results, the study will provide policy recommendations aimed at fostering the growth of rural entrepreneurship in sub-Saharan Africa.
