Creative Inhabitation and Curatorial Analysis: Art, Science & Technology in Practice

Abstract

This presentation articulates key aspects several bodies of my work - the first on chronophotography, the second on camouflage, and as each pertain to the histories of science, technology and perception. Two concepts raised in the presentation, which I believe can be extended more broadly: that of creative inhabitation and of curatorial analytic. The productive duality of making and knowing – critical intervention and curatorial process – as it pertains to artistic, cinematic, and textual work, is the subject here at hand. My process is of a lived synthesis of theory and practice; within this, a range of media practices and processes, from archival research, to photography and filmmaking, performance and more traditional writing, constitutes practice. In this context my work deals with the history and cultures of science and technology specifically. The virtue of such multimodality is simultaneously aesthetic and analytic, in the sense of -- and with the effect of --uncovering new dimensions by means of which to understand science and technology.
