• In Event: Shaping the Art/Science Field: A Preview of the Handbook for Art, Science & Technology Studies - I

Abstract

There are numerous researchers engaging in high quality interdisciplinary collaborations where the arts have been integral to the process and products. However, these innovative collaborations often lack institutionalized support structures of disciplinary academics, hence the onus sits with the individual to disseminate findings and create discourse around the work. This paper briefly discusses the development of the field of art-integrative interdisciplinary research and its challenges. It provides a summary of literature on interdisciplinarity and creativity addressing the critical interaction mechanisms and conditions that aid in fostering productive interdisciplinary collaborations where arts are integral. Finally, we discuss Groundworks, an online peer-review platform, the review process for submission and publication, and the contribution we envision it making to advance the field. We believe that through creating a hub for the distribution and discussion of collaborative research, we can facilitate research sharing and best practice identification. In addition to information dissemination, we believe the discourse created through this platform will advance the field of art-science.
