Abstract

The synthesis, characterization, and electrochemistry of {η6-(Organosilyl)arene}chromium tricarbonyl complexes have been previously recorded (Moran, 1992), but the reactivity with other compounds are yet to be discovered. The chemistry of [{(CO)3Cr}η6-C6H5]SiMe2H (1) is being investigated. In specific, the oxidative addition/reduction elimination reaction with (η5-C5H5)Fe(CO)2Me (2) to form a silicon-bimetallic complex. By irradiating 1 and 2, the expected product of [{(CO)3Cr}η6-C6H5]SiMe2-Fe(CO)2(η5-C5H5) (3) is produced, which has been characterized by mulitinuclear NMR and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The reductive/oxidative properties of the metal centers of 3 are further investigated by the irradiation in the presence of triphenylphosphine (Ph3P) where both metals in the intramolecular system are exposed this then unveils a unique chemical transformation.
