Whose Call and Response?: Using Afroskepticism to Disrupt American Discourse

Abstract

In it, I examine how Afroskepticism offers a critical framework for understanding the fractures, refusals, and contested invitations embedded within U.S. public discourse. By tracing how call-and-response traditions are appropriated, interrupted, or strategically misread in contemporary digital and political culture, the paper argues that Afroskepticism names a necessary analytic for confronting the limits of American racial liberalism and the discursive practices that sustain it.
