Digital Humanities Caucus Digital Shorts

Session Submission Type: Roundtable Discussion

Abstract

The Digital Humanities Caucus proposes an open roundtable session of 5-minute lightning talks, calling on participants to present their newest digital projects, in-progress digital works, and calls for DH collaborations. This format has been a successful feature of the DH Caucus sponsored panel lineup for many years, offering the field of American studies new opportunities for forging from-the-bottom-up ways of making knowledge. This year’s theme of Improvisation aims to foster dialogue on the resilience, messiness, and impromptu nature of digital work in this moment of crisis and transformation. We particularly welcome projects that critically engage with communities, reparative justice, and artistic creativity that comes from mistakes and imperfect outcomes. It is critical to shine a spotlight on digital scholarships that reveal how digital tools and methodologies can challenge dominant narratives, amplify marginalized voices, and foster new modes of inclusion and public engagement. We will circulate a call for participants before the conference, prepare presentation information to share out, and facilitate participation and discussion from the floor at the end of the session.

Biographical Information

Khanh Vo is a historian, digital humanist, and educator in American history, digital and spatial humanities, STS, games studies, and material culture. Her primary research explores machine labor as it pertains to questions of race, gender, and design. She is the Digital Humanities Specialist in the Center for Digital Scholarship at Brown University. She was the 2022-23 Digital Humanities Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto’s Jackman Humanities Institute and Critical Digital Humanities Initiative. She completed her doctorate in American Studies in 2021 at William & Mary.
