This paper will evaluate the statutory provisions regarding civil remedies for whistleblowers under Section 806 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and the implications that different court decisions have on employees who report corporate fraud. Ultimately, this paper argues for a broad interpretation of the remedial provisions of Section 806 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act because it echoes congressional intent in this matter and implements a public policy intended to protect whistleblowers who report financial statement fraud.
