Business Process Representations: Creating Diagrams, Detecting Errors, Making Inferences and Identifying Accounting Entries

Sat, January 25, 10:30am to 12:00pm, TBA

Abstract

In this case, students (1) prepare a business process diagram (BPD) to represent a business process for the implementation of remote disabling devices for cars sold on loan and (2) answer questions in which they identify errors in a draft BPD, follow process flows to make inferences about the business situation, and identify accounting transactions. The case is appropriate for students developing beginning skills in documenting business processes in courses in accounting information systems (AIS) and information systems (IS). Working the case requires students to think critically about the business process and the implications of changes in the process. Through the objective questions accompanying it, the case can be used to assess students’ abilities to identify errors in a graphical representation of a business process, make inferences about a business process from conversation, and distinguish between accounting and non-accounting events.
