Abstract

Traditional flexible budgeting and variance analysis has been the subject of numerous studies. More recent studies have suggested that incorporation of an optimization techniques, such as linear programming, will enhance the traditional approach. Maine Cordage Company is a teaching case that enables instructors to introduce the concept of ex post flexible budget to the classroom. Teaching notes to be used with the Case follow the case.
