Effects of Project Due Dates on Student Performance and Anxiety Levels

Sat, October 19, 11:15am to 12:55pm, Double Tree by Hilton Hotel Chicago, TBA

Abstract

Finding ways to help students maximize their potential and get the most value out of their educational experience is a problem faced by all faculty. The increasing demands students face, both in and outside the classroom, further reduces their attention and threatens the level of their performance. In this paper, the authors examine the effects of project deliverable due dates on student performance and anxiety levels. The study found no difference in performance and self-report anxiety between projects with one single deliverable deadline and those with a series of deadlines for parts of the project. However, other indicators of student anxiety decreased and the students preferred the project with a series of deadlines over those with one single due date. Theses finding provide two more items to consider when developing student projects.
