What Factors Associate with Reducing the Level of Classroom Cheating

Abstract

This study surveyed 218 undergraduate business students (133 men and 85 women) enrolled in introductory accounting and business law classes at a private university in the Northeast of the United States on various issues concerning honesty in academics. Our research aims to examine specific ways for academic institutions to reduce levels of cheating. Prior research has focused on large actions, such as establishing honor codes; however, our research focuses on reducing cheating at a micro-level. Our data provides an insight on students’ anonymous opinions on the level of cheating and ways to reduce it. Although our sample size of students participating in the survey is relatively small compared to previous studies done in the same area of research, our results were very similar to that of previous studies.
