Review sessions facilitate an effective learning environment and are often used to improve the state of students’ learning. We generally think of review sessions as students’ preparation for examinations. A review is defined as an explanation of something that has already been taught, in preparation for exams. However, reviews serve more than this purpose. One of the most important aims of reviews is to reinforce students’ comprehension of the materials taught in class. This study will discuss the importance of review sessions and the issues that teachers should consider during the entire review process, from planning to reflection.
The review of course materials is a concise way to enhance the understanding of important concepts and methods, as well as to enable the easy recall of materials. Furthermore, review sessions could provide clarification on certain parts of the learning materials that the students had difficulties with.
Reviews should highlight both the important areas of learning and the review problem areas. It gives the main points or facts in a condensed form in a brief and clear sequence. Effective review sessions show and explain how the key ideas relate to one another, to the ideas from previous lectures, and to the themes of the course. This approach will enable students to generate a bigger picture of the key concepts in the course.
In addition to lectures, homework, and reading of materials, the review of materials, in conjunction with assigned additional practical tests, will help students be successful during examinations and hence in their future professional life.
