The Tax Gap Where Has All the Money Gone

Abstract

In October 2017 the Government Accountability Office (GAO) completed a study of the amount of income that goes unreported annually and for which no tax is paid. This paper will explore which types are income are going unreported, why the income is unreported and what can be done to close the "gap" between all the income which is earned and how much of it is reported for tax purposes annually.
