The study examines the role of formative assessment in predicting subsequent summative assessment in a blended learning introductory accounting subject. Predictive models are part of the feedback process that can enhance the learning environment for both students and instructors. The students participated in continuous online formative quizzes throughout the semester before and after each of two mid-term exams and up to the final exam. We develop three predictive models to predict student performance in each of the three exams and then assess the predictive accuracy of the models. We find online quizzes, GPA and mid-term exam grades are significant predictors of final exam scores. A survey of students suggests they would find such a predictive model useful and would modify their learning if they were predicted to be “at risk”.
