The purpose of this study is to compare faculty salary across disciplines and to examine whether faculty salary structure is in line with other characteristics of their institution. The data for the study are from the 2004 National Study of Postsecondary Faculty, conducted by the National Center for Educational Statistics. These are survey-based data collected from a nationally represented sample of approximately 35,000 faculty and instructional staff from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The data contain a wealth of information, including basic salary, overall compensation, academic ranks, disciplines, institution type, employment status, principle activity, educational credential, tenure status and others. We utilize innovative approaches to analyze the data and display the statistical results.
