Abstract: Students who are very successful in the first Accounting Principles class might be considered good prospects for recruitment into the major. The faculty in one accounting department does work hard at recruitment and still find some excellent students who reject the opportunity to become an accounting major. This paper looks at why this is the case and what are the primary factors that are influencing the decisions of these students. The hope is that some more information can be provided to students to help them make informed decisions.
