The Profitability of a 1920's CPA Firm: The Case of Haskins & Sells

Abstract

The surviving partnership tax returns of the CPA firm of Haskins & Sells from the early 1920s indicate that the firm was extremely profitable during that period of time. Other documents corroborate this conclusion for later years of the 1920s. The Firm also supported the needy and paid substantial salaries to non-partners—including females—who made contributions to the organization.
