One of the challenges facing many accounting programs is how to deliver a curriculum that facilitates a broad-based understanding of accounting and the linkages between accounting and business practices. One strategy for meeting this challenge is collaborative pedagogical tools. This Effective Learning Strategies (ELS) Poster presents an innovative teaching strategy that integrates the auditing and strategic management and policy (SMP) courses via collaborative pedagogy. Many accounting courses are taught in a functional “silo” approach and are narrowly focused. However, changes in the audit approach since the mid-1990’s supports a call for an integrated approach to teaching auditing courses. Auditing firms utilize a risk-based “top-down” audit approach beginning with a strategic analysis of client’s business, strategy and external environment.
