This poster will report on Phase 1 of a longitudinal study. The purpose of Phase 1 is to determine baseline effect sizes re: the relationships between “success” in principles of financial accounting and four factors that researchers in higher education and educational psychology have determined are typically correlated with student success in general. These factors are academic background, grit, attendance, and study habits, skills, and attitudes (SHSA). Phase 1 contributes to the literature by incorporating the construct of grit and a validated measure of SHSA directly into the accounting literature for what appears to be the first time.
