When the COVID-19 pandemic forced stay-at-home orders and higher education institutions to shut down to in-person instruction throughout the country, faculty teaching in face-to-face environments were suddenly thrown into the online environment. This was unfamiliar territory for many faculty members. As the pandemic continues and public health concerns threaten the timing and scope of the return to “normal,” faculty must be prepared to teach in any environment and seamlessly pivot from one environment to another.
This session will discuss several teaching tips and strategies for online and virtual learning based on personal experience and lessons learned. While it will introduce technology applications and teaching techniques specifically to engage students in a Principles of Accounting course, many of these concepts can be utilized in upper division accounting courses as well. In addition, the applications and techniques can be applied to all teaching modalities including face-to-face, hybrid, synchronous online, and asynchronous online environments.
