Abstract

The Literacy Standards set by the National Institute of Literacy divide 21st Century Skills into the following skills and actions.
1. Communication Skills
a. Read with understating
b. Convey ideas in writing
c. Speak so others can understand
d. Listen Actively
e. Observe critically
2. Decision Making Skills
a. Plan
b. Solve Problems & Make Decisions
c. Use math to solve problems & communicate
3. Interpersonal skills
a. Guide others
b. Resolve conflict and negotiate
c. Advocate and influence
d. Cooperate with others
4. Lifelong Learning skills
a. Take responsibility for learning
b. Reflect & Evaluate
c. Learn through research
d. Use information & Communication technology
Each skills area has several actions towards achievement. The authors analyze each skill and provide examples as to how to incorporate into the accounting curriculum.
