Abstract

Today’s accountants must be life-long learners but many of our students are arriving in our classrooms without the learning skills they need to be successful in our courses or in their future careers. Cramming and memorization worked in high school, but doesn’t work in accounting where the skills build. As accounting instructors, our students need us to teach more than accounting and we can help them without sacrificing the time we need to spend on content. This presentation will give you practical and easy-to-implement ideas for developing your courses with learning science concepts in mind and how to teach your students how to apply these concepts to their studies. These ideas can be implemented in campus, distance learning, and hybrid teaching environments. Teaching learning science to our students will help them in all areas of their lives as they learn to become life-long learners.
